Dead as Dreams play epic black metal synthesizing elements from all the different niches of the supreme black metal art. Their Steps Become Unbearable testifies to this, revealing influences from not only black metal, but also funeral doom metal. In terms of sound, the ep has been compared to Weakling, early Emperor and Drudkh, vast, sprawling and layered. Dead as Dreams departs from the traditional black metal sound by abandoning the stereotypical “cold” atmosphere and opting for a much brighter and triumphant yet simultaneously melancholic sound.
